Val Morgan Outdoor (VMO) has advised that is has added 260 new sites to its national VMO Active network while also taken over Jetts Fitness’ digital media representation. The addition sees the VMO Active network expand to more than 1,000 clubs, 4,000 plus screens and over 1.35 million members. The network – which spans Fitness First, Goodlife Health Clubs, Anytime Fitness, Fernwood, Belgravia Leisure managed facilities, City Fitness and select Club Lime clubs – now includes the Fitness and Lifestyle Group-owned Jetts as well as a suite of screens in independent gyms. Anthony Deeble, Chief Commercial Officer of VMO owner the HOYTS Group, told AdNews “whilst growth stories seem few and far between in 2020, VMO remain committed to continually strengthening our network of attention destinations to connect advertisers to a positive, action-oriented audience via a network with scale. “VMO has led the charge in the health club space and this final piece of the puzzle extends our VMO Active network to all major fitness chains in Australia. This acquisition allows us to broaden the existing opportunity for advertisers to deliver contextually relevant content to high value, hard to reach audiences found within the premium health and wellbeing category.” VMO has used its proprietary audience measurement tool DART to measure the return of audiences and provide regular updates to the market. With gyms approaching full scale operations across the country, 80% of fitness club members are citing a positive mindset as their mood improves when they work out, it’s easy to see why. Seeing the opportunity to benefit from this, VMO Managing Director, Paul Butler added “now more than ever, people are seeking a sense of normality and for many, returning to their health and fitness clubs is right up there on the list. “With an average visitation time of 70 minutes and audiences being highly engaged, in a positive and energetic mindset, VMO Active delivers the best opportunity for brands to capture consumers attention within this key environment. “Jetts is the final piece for VMO Active and with it, we now have the ultimate network to deliver audiences on a mass scale that is second to none in this space.” Image: A VMO screen at Fitness First Bond Street. For Melbourne’s LEGOLAND Discovery Centre reopening to the public on 19th November 2020, new COVIDSafe measures – including regularly disinfecting and cleaning LEGO blocks and high-frequency touch points – will ensure the safety of its visitors. The health and safety measures, which were originally implemented in June, include regularly disinfecting and cleaning LEGO and high-frequency touch points. The attraction’s industrial cleaning machine is being used to wash LEGO bricks three times per day. Other measures include becoming a completely cashless operation, lowering capacity limits with allocated time-slots for guests, the use of additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing for staff, the provision of spatial separation markings, the installation of hygiene screens in various areas and vigorous cleaning regimes. All visitors aged 12 and above will be required to wear face masks. Following the Victorian Government’s move to allow playcentres to reopen, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre General Manager, Katie Isaac enthuses “we are thrilled to welcome guests back to LEGOLAND Discovery Centre and have been working behind the scenes to ensure the attraction is a safe and fun place for families to visit. “It is really important for all visitors – including our valued annual pass holders – to pre-book their timeslot in advance as we have capacity restrictions in place to allow for social distancing. “We are very excited to welcome guests back and are also incredibly proud of what we have achieved during the two closure periods. We have continued creating magical LEGO experiences by launching a successful online retail store, hosting twice weekly live streams, running online school workshops and holding our first ever virtual holiday camp.” Located at Chadstone Shopping Centre, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is home to a LEGO model of Melbourne, 11 build and play zones, two rides, a 4D cinema, retail store, and soft play zones. The attraction is designed specifically for families with children aged 3-10. Adults must be accompanied by a child (except when visiting the retail store or attending Adult Night events). The post Melbourne’s LEGOLAND implements COVIDSafe measures to ensure visitor health appeared first on Brunswick Remedial Massage. from http://www.brunswickremedialmassage.com.au/health-wellness/melbournes-legoland-implements-covidsafe-measures-to-ensure-visitor-health/ The multimillion-dollar package includes $492 million for 120 mental health beds in Geelong, Epping, Sunshine and Melbourne, bringing the total number of beds announced this year to 144. There will be $18.9 million for 35 acute treatment beds for mental health patients in public and private hospital, as well as $21.4 million to expand the Hospital Outreach Post-Suicidal Engagement (HOPE) service. The government will invest $2.2 million to begin designing the Victorian Collaborative Centre for Mental Health and Wellbeing to bring together experts including researchers, academics, and people who have experienced the system firsthand. The centre was a key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System’s interim report. A further $7.7 million will be provided to hire more mental health staff while $3.1 million will go towards supporting general nurses to retrain as mental health nurses. Mr Merlino said the government did not want to wait until the royal commission provided its final report in February to begin rebuilding the mental health sector. “We aren’t going to wait, and we can’t wait,” he said. “This is a massive mental health budget, and a down payment, if you like, as we prepare for the final report of the royal commission next year.” Loading The government said it would get to work immediately to begin rolling out the different initiatives. Premier Daniel Andrews said the mammoth funding announcement would benefit every Victorian, not just those living with mental health issues. “One in five of us will experience a mental illness this year, but five in five of us benefit from a better mental health system,” the Premier said. “Just like physical health, if someone in your family is unwell and doesn’t get the care they need, doesn’t get the support they need, they’ve got a system that almost works against them – that doesn’t just impact that person as a patient or client, it affects everyone in your household and by extension every single one of us.” Mr Merlino said there continued to be a sharp increase in the number of Victorians seeking mental health support amid the pandemic and the state’s prolonged lockdown to contain the second coronavirus wave. But the latest figures from the Coroners Court shows, the suicide rate remained relatively stable. There were 580 deaths in the 12 months to October 31, compared with 600 the previous year and 587 the year prior. In its interim report tabled in the State Parliament in November last year, the royal commission found years of underinvestment in the sector led to a system that “catastrophically failed to live up to expectations” and recommended Victorians pay a new tax to fund the sector. But on Thursday, Mr Merlino conceded “now is not the time” to introduce a mental health tax in light of the COVID-19 recession. The post Singapore to host APAC Health, Fitness and Wellness Leadership Summit on 9th December appeared first on Brunswick Remedial Massage. from http://www.brunswickremedialmassage.com.au/health-wellness/singapore-to-host-apac-health-fitness-and-wellness-leadership-summit-on-9th-december/ Calls to Beyond Blue increased 66 per cent in April and 60 per cent in May compared with the same period in 2019. In June, calls were up 47 per cent on June 2019. According to the Australian Psychological Society, some people on mental health plans have begun “staggering” their appointments to try to stretch them out to cover the pandemic period but this could also leave clients at risk.
The society’s president, Ros Knight, says demand for psychological support is “extraordinary” and “as the year goes on everybody’s running out [of resilience]; we’re more anxious, stressed and irritable, particularly in Victoria.” A survey of the society’s members found more than 90 per cent would like access to telehealth via Medicare item numbers to be extended beyond the current September expiry date to allow them to keep caring for clients. Loading Ms Knight, a clinical and counselling psychologist, said people were feeling so worn down by the pandemic “we have most assuredly seen an uptick in the number of cases [of depression and anxiety] and it’s just starting to explode. We expect it to get worse across the year.” As a practicing psychologist, she said “the number of clients coming back to me this year, that I haven’t seen for say a couple of years or longer, is just amazing”. “It’s in the ‘extraordinary’ camp. Initially there was a lull while everybody was getting used to telehealth, but to have the pandemic back onto the bushfires as well, this hasn’t been a low-stress year in anybody’s calendar,” said Ms Knight. The APS has already called on the federal government to extend telehealth and boost the number of sessions available for Medicare subsidy from 10 to 20, or more for people suffering from acute mental health conditions. Ms Knight said although the government has stated it has not seen statistics indicating people’s mental health plans are running out yet, “I would note there is a couple of months delay on the statistics they get”. Spacing out sessions to try to make the subsidised package last longer “is not good clinical practice” and “people who need to see you weekly are just not getting that consistency” and she said this was a national problem. “It’s much worse this year, in particular for Victoria, but let’s not pretend NSW and Queensland are out of the woods yet. There is no sense that by the end of the year we expect everything to be rosy and people not to need to see us,” she said. Beyond Blue agrees more Medicare-subsidised sessions should be provided to those who need them “but the number of sessions should be matched to the person’s level and type of need and outcomes must be measured.” A spokesman for the Department of Health said the government recognises the significant impact the pandemic is having on the mental health and wellbeing of Australians, “particularly those in areas affected by the recent outbreaks in Victoria”. Between January 1 and July 30, 2020, more than 850,000 mental health treatment plan Medicare items were accessed nationally, compared with 838,000 in the same period last year. Ms Knight said she expected that Health Minister Greg Hunt would soon make a statement on whether telehealth would be extended and treatment plan entitlements increased. Mr Le Liu, who was behind the council’s recent food vouchers to international students, said people would need help to prepare to work, play and move around the city after months of staying at home. He said mental health support should include an outreach taskforce that could provide tailored packages using existing federal and state funded services, plus additional funding and advocacy from the council. “If you look at the amount of money council has set aside for mental health, it is not even close enough to what is going to be, in my opinion, an avalanche of people trying to access it,” Mr Le Liu said. “Not putting [enough] money towards mental health … is going to cost us more in the long run, in terms of … productivity.” The team is running on an anti-drugs platform, and would also implement increased reporting on and support for the homeless with an aim to get them off the city’s streets. The ticket has swapped preferences with Wayne Tseng from Team Zorin and Gary Morgan from Morgan-Watts. Mr Tseng and Mr Morgan say that was based on a shared belief that Melbourne should be reopened after its extended COVID-19 lockdown and a claim that their competitors are too close to the Labor state government. All three teams are opposing plans to open the state’s second safe-injecting room near the Queen Victoria Market. Lord mayor Sally Capp’s running mate Nicholas Reece is a Labor member, as is the endorsed Labor candidate Phil Reed and Back to Business candidate Jennifer Yang. “It will be alarming to know that we will have wall-to-wall Labor from Spring Street down to Swanston,” said Mr Tseng, a former Liberal member and candidate. Councillor Jackie Watts, lead council candidate on the Morgan-Watts team, is a Labor member but Mr Morgan said that was irrelevant because she did not always support the party’s line. Cr Watts has been a vocal opponent of the Andrews government’s plans to open a safe-injecting room near the Queen Victoria Market. “We’re all business people. We own businesses, we run businesses, and we understand business. And we understand how it’s so important to end the COVID stage four situation now and allow people to go back to work and get into the offices and open up the shops and restaurants,” Mr Morgan said. Mr Morgan, executive chairman of polling company Roy Morgan, also wants to extend the free tram zone and cut rates. He has proposed repurposing vacant buildings to house public housing residents and wants to find more solutions to homelessness. Loading Meanwhile, Team Zorin wants to invest in digital jobs like robotics and would hand residents a vote on council issues using a participatory democracy platform. Mr Tseng also wants to cut rates for retail and hospitality venues that have been sitting vacant, to roll out more security cameras, and to increase the free tram zone. Bring Back Melbourne’s other policies to encourage people to return to the CBD include attracting and retaining big events, offering incentives to businesses to entice their workers back to the office, and halving parking fees to help the city better compete with Chadstone Shopping Centre, which offers free parking. For Melburnians, who have endured over 200 days this year under varying levels of ‘stay-at-home’ restrictions, it’s safe to say there are many people living at breaking point. According to The Australian, mental health treatment in Victoria has risen by 30 per cent in the past four weeks, as the impact of the lockdown takes its toll. As restrictions begin to ease in Victoria and cases drop, concern for mental health only increases. In August, the Victorian government announced an allocation of nearly $60 million in extra funding for mental health services in light of the crisis. Side note… Here’s how to talk to anti-vaxxers. Post continues below. In an effort to check in on Melburnians right now, we asked 15 women in the Mamamia community: How are you doing, really? Here’s what they told us. 1. Ruth.My mental health is poor. I’m working, which is a blessing, but everyone is exhausted – like bone-drenching tired. Worse still, I fear we have become institutionalised. I feel myself being fearful of the future, fearful of other people, fearful of a third wave, fearful of doorknobs, pedestrian crossing buttons, handrails. But I’m so happy and proud that we have worked together and I find the comparisons with NSW galling. It’s like kicking someone when they’re already on the ground. It’s mean-spirited and unhelpful. 2. CarolynI’m trying not to worry about what I can’t change. The ‘if only’ scenario can be a killer, so I try to avoid thinking about it. My only grandchild is only nine months old and I have missed out on nearly all of his early months. 3. Julia.During the lockdown, my mental health has been quite up and down. But right now, I’m feeling optimistic with current numbers and the roadmap out of restrictions. I work in public health and wholeheartedly support the government in the measures they have taken to date. I’ve previously worked in the NHS (UK Public Health Service) and I feel incredibly grateful for our position, compared to those in the UK and Europe. And in that area (south-east Melbourne), there are hundreds of thousands of people who live there, as well as through St Kilda’s reach as a football club to many more. “I think this will be a lasting legacy and a fitting tribute to one of the great footballers and Victorians, Danny ‘Spud’ Frawley.” The St Kilda champion showed great passion, determination and commitment to championing mental health prior to his death in September 2019 that rocked the footy world. Speaking to the Herald Sun for the first time since her husband’s passing, Frawley’s widow, Anita, said the family was “incredibly proud” and that the facility had the potential to have a “powerful” impact. “Danny just wanted to help people. He suffered so much, and for this centre to come through is just incredible,” Anita told the Herald Sun. “Even though he’s not here, he will make a difference.” Frawley was a St Kilda champion and long-time club captain, playing 240 games across 12 seasons at full-back. Anita said Moorabbin “was his home” and a place he spoke about “so proudly”. “His famous quote about ‘manning up’ is just so relevant and this centre will help bring it all to fruition,” she said. “His footy achievements were incredible, but this, in time, will really stand as his legacy. Everyone knows how passionate he was about mental health. “He wanted people who were suffering, men especially, to speak up and just talk about it and be listened to.” Saints president Andrew Bassat said his club was “extremely humbled” by the contributions from the two levels of government. “In establishing what role the club and Danny Frawley Centre could play in the community, we have been guided by some of Victoria’s most respected mental health experts and organisations,” he said. “We will continue to partner with others to deliver vital education programs that serve to decrease the stigma attached to mental illness and promote proactive steps people can take to achieve positive mental health. “Danny was not only a champion of St Kilda, but a leading voice in encouraging people to speak up about their struggles with mental health and to seek help. “We are humbled to continue his work by creating a welcoming place where not only St Kilda people, but the broader community, can connect, grow and be well – physically and mentally.” Victorian Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Martin Pakula said the centre would play a vital role in continuing Frawley’s legacy. “Danny Frawley was an inspirational Victorian on and off the field, and helped many people through his efforts to promote awareness of mental health issues,” Mr Pakula said. “The establishment of this centre is a fitting acknowledgment of his work and his standing in the community and will provide an enduring legacy.” The post AFL 2020: Danny Frawley Centre for Health and Wellbeing at St Kilda headquarters, Moorabbin, mental health appeared first on Brunswick Remedial Massage. from http://www.brunswickremedialmassage.com.au/health-wellness/afl-2020-danny-frawley-centre-for-health-and-wellbeing-at-st-kilda-headquarters-moorabbin-mental-health/ It has been a tough year, and the year 12 cohort in particular is just trying to get through it. At the same time, many students have had to change their plans for next year, applying for university rather than spending a gap year travelling overseas. Loading “A lot of people are feeling tired and drained and they just want to see the end of all this; the end of school and the end of the pandemic,” Christian said. Audrey said the hardest time was the seven weeks of remote learning in term one and two. Social media became a lifeline for keeping up with friends but also a massive distraction from study. “You don’t realise how important socialising at school is, until it’s not there anymore, so I think a lot of people did struggle with mental health and concentration and just general morale,” she said. Audrey and Christian say their fellow students have are aware of the support services out there and are also good at supporting each other. The student leadership team – which includes the student representatives from each year as well as the captains and prefects from year 12 – had made wellbeing a big focus and were also trying to get more art throughout public places in the school, such as murals. Many schools emphasise mental health and teach wellbeing skills in homeroom classes and run special events but increasingly, like at Dulwich Hill High, students are doing it for themselves as well. At schools as far afield as Orange High School and Cranbrook in Bellevue Hill, students have resurrected the mullet hairstyle for the Black Dog Institute’s “Mullets for Mental Health” initiative. St Catherine’s prefects turbo-charged their Instagram accounts to help fellow students maintain connections and stay healthy. At Port Hacking High, the SRC arranged for the school to be lit up in yellow for RUOK day, while at Moss Vale High, students had “conversation walks” around the oval, using scripts to ask if their peers were OK. Windsor High School marked Wellbeing Week with “crazy hair day, mixed socks day, PJ day” and random acts of kindness arranged by students and staff. All this positivity has a sombre purpose, with Sydney and regional NSW are dealing with a spate of youth suicides this year. There has been a cluster of nine suicides among year 11 and 12 students in north shore public and private schools since January, while Kiama on the south coast has been rocked by five suicides in the past five weeks, some of them teens. Loading Last week, students at a number of Sydney schools were hauled into the principal’s office and some were even suspended for sharing a graphic suicide video. The video, originally live-streamed on Facebook, was posted on TikTok with seemingly innocent images of puppies and kittens to lure children. The eSafety commissioner Julie Inman Grant warned parents to monitor social media use or keep children offline for a few days but not to draw children’s attention to the video if they had not already heard about it. But now planning is well and truly underway to bring state-wide events to the Peel region. Last month, the City of Mandurah council endorsed the planning of a Wellness Weekend, which would attract more people and revenue to the region. The Wellness Weekend will deliver a diverse range of health and well-being based programs and activities targeted at the health-conscious market. The event is set to start in Feburary 2022 and could include programs such as skin care, yoga, sound bathing and digital detoxing. The Wellness Weekend will include a festival hub with a main stage, peripheral stalls, pop ups and free activities as well as breakout areas and workshops located within local businesses and venues. Mandurah deputy mayor Caroline Knight said the Wellness Weekend would attract people from Perth. “This is quite an exciting project that we have before us and certainly wellness is a growth industry,” she said. “The proximity of Mandurah from the City will ensure this is quite a well attended weekend.” The suggested locations for this event are the Eastern Foreshore, Mandjar Square and Administration Bay. As the event grows other locations such as the Western Foreshore, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, Mandjar Square and Keith Holmes Reserve will also be considered. The event will require $80,000 from Mandurah ratepayers, but staff estimate the weekend will generate in excess of $1.2 million over the three years.
